Therapy, counselling

Psychological Therapy
(£80)

I offer a range of therapies, further details for each can be found below.

01.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is used to help individuals overcome negative thinking patterns and behaviours that contribute to mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, obsessive–compulsive disorder, panic, body dysmorphia, disordered eating etc. CBT usually comprises a short-term treatment with a predetermined number of sessions. It incorporates activities for clients to practice outside of therapy, such as completing worksheets or maintaining a diary. I aim to customise CBT sessions to address your unique needs and goals.

02.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) is an effective therapy for treating trauma and PTSD. EMDR therapy addresses three time periods: the past, present, and future. It concentrates on past distressing memories and related events, as well as current distressing situations. Moreover, it emphasises cultivating the necessary skills and attitudes for positive future actions. I know how difficult it can be to talk openly about sensitive issues and will respect what you do and do not feel comfortable in sharing.

03.

Schema Therapy is a longer-term approach aimed at identifying and changing negative childhood patterns affecting individuals' mental health. It involves assessments to recognise problematic coping styles and schemas (also known as 'negative life beliefs'), leading to lasting changes. I may set structured assignments outside sessions to help you confront negative beliefs. Whist in sessions, I will provide empathic confrontation and address unmet childhood needs through talking, chairwork and imagery exercises.

04.

Person Centred Counselling is a non-directive therapy that empowers individuals to explore their own thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment. I will encourage you to bring your own issues to the sessions, as the counselling is led by you and not directed by me.

05.

Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) aims to foster mental and emotional healing by encouraging individuals in treatment to cultivate compassion towards themselves and others. I may include the following:

  1. Appreciation exercises, emphasising enjoyable things through activities and making lists of likes.

  2. Mindfulness, learning to be present in the moment without judgment.

  3. Compassion-focused imagery exercises, using guided memories and fantasies to stimulate the soothing system and promote relational healing.

06.

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented psychotherapy derived from traditional behaviour therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. Clients are encouraged to stop avoiding, denying, or struggling with their inner emotions. Instead, they learn to accept these feelings as appropriate responses to certain situations, enabling them to move forward in life. Through this understanding, I help clients to embrace their challenges and commit to behavioural changes, regardless of life circumstances or emotions.
